The Citrus
Copper Application Scheduler helps citrus growers decide when they should
apply copper to protect their groves against a number of diseases such as
melanose and canker. The model takes into account rainfall and fruit growth and
will help growers avoid under- or over-applying copper, reducing their costs and
environmental concerns without compromising the protection of the fruit against
diseases. This product was developed in cooperation with Dr. Dewdney, a plant
pathologist at the UF Citrus Research and Education Center located in Lake
Alfred, FL, and will be tested with growers via the UF-IFAS extension faculty
working in the region. Workshops to demonstrate the tool to growers are being
planned for the near future.
